Dynamics of Air
How do designers, artists, scientists and researchers work with an intangible atmospheric medium such as air? Explore it, alter it, adjust it,…
German architect and professional provocateur Friedrich von Borries talks about operating between the blurring border of fiction and reality in his work, and will discuss his recent projects and investigations.
von Borries runs the interdisciplinary design office ‘Projektbüro’ (Berlin), at the Hochschule für bildende Künste (HFBK) in Hamburg Germany, where he is professor of Design Theory
Friedrich operates between the blurring boundaries of urban planning, architecture, design and art. The focus of his work is the relation of design practice and socio-political development.
“As scientists we try to comprehend the world. As designers we try to change this world. That is why we deal with such questions that determine our contemporary situation by designing and researching the matters on hand: global economic inequality, environmental destruction and climate change, technologies of surveillance and security policies.”
Friedrich von Borries has been brought to Melbourne by the Goethe Institut as part of the “Dynamics of Air” exhibition, RMIT Gallery, 14th September – 17th November 201.
